Solar Protection

Did you know?
-That UVA radiation(unlike UVB) is consistently the same all day, all month, all year long.
-UVA rays present the same damaging effects to the skin in December as in July.
-UVA radiation enters the skin to a deeper depth than UVB rays and is more damaging to the skin.
-That This is specifically why daily year round sun protection is essential.

What is the difference between UVA and UVB?
-UVB is the wavelength that causes the red painful irritation first experienced during early sun   exposure.
_UVA is the deeper penetrating wavelength that is most often associated with wrinkling, pigmentation, and long term damage.

Both UVA and UVB radiation are both recognized as causing cancer.

Electrolysis vs. Laser, What is best for Permanent Hair Removal

Electrolysis vs. Laser, What is best for Permanent Hair Removal

One of Blog readers asked the following question:

Q: I am not sure what treatment I should use
for Hair Removal, Electrolysis or Laser.

A: We at Dimitra's believe that both the Laser and Electrolysis in the right application will give you
hair removal results. We often use both together with excellent results.

Lasers have been used for hair removal since the 1990's. Lasers use beams of highly concentrated light into hair follicles. Pigment in the follicles absorb the light. That destroys the hair.  Lasers work best when the hair is in the anagen growing phase. Laser is great in it's ability to treat large areas in a short amount of time.  Hair goes through three stages which encompass growing, dis-attaching, and shedding. On some parts of the body, less than 50% of hair are in the growing phase.Laser is less effective on grey, blond, and red hair, as well as darker skin tones.Lasers are impractical to use when sculpting eyebrows, and other critical areas.

Electrolysis involves inserting a sterile ultra fine probe into each hair follicle, delivering a small amount of electrical current to eliminate the dermal papilla that feeds the growing hair.
Many hairs will be eliminated with only one treatment, but some hair will need two or more treatments to be eliminated permanently. Electrolysis involves a series of treatments and the length of time is dependent on the amount of hair, coarseness, the cause of the excess hair and many other factors. Once the dermal papilla is eliminated the hair is dead and will not regrow. Electrolysis is able to successfully treat all hair colors and all skin tones.

Both Electrolysis and Laser are not pain free. The pain from Laser is likened to that of a small snap on the skin. Electrolysis discomfort has been greatly reduced with the Apilus 27mHz machine. It is quick and according to those who have used both old and the new electrology technology, almost pain free.

Numbing cream is an option that many patrons use for both removal methods.
